Union Mourns Manlio DiPreta, Longtime Attorney for the TWU
TWU Local 100 mourns the passing on March 11, 2016 of Manlio DiPreta, a labor attorney who dedicated his career to defending transit workers and helping to negotiate scores of contracts covering TWU members. He died after a long battle with cancer at age 58.
Manlio began his career with the firm O’Donnell and Schwartz, which had served as general counsel to both Local 100 and the International Union since the union’s founding. He was particularly instrumental in the negotiation of three contracts with the MTA in the 90’s.
At the time of his passing, Manlio was part of the firm, Pitta Giblin, LLP and had been representing the Local in negotiations with GCS, the Access-a-Ride call center for the MTA. Manlio is survived by his wife, Laurie, five children, his mother and six brothers and sisters.
