Finally, Protective Masks Will Be Available for Frontline Transit Workers
MARCH 27 -- After several weeks of the union applying persistent public and behind-the-scenes pressure, the MTA will be making protective masks available for frontline transit workers on a weekly basis.
The MTA announced this evening that they had finally been able to secure significant quantities of these masks that have been in short supply across the nation for first responders, health care workers and other essential employees who have been carrying the load for New York and America during this crisis.
TWU Local 100 President Tony Utano hailed the MTA’s announcement and said the union is working closely with management to determine the best way to distribute the masks directly to the job sites.
President Utano said: “We’ve been working very hard to secure masks for transit workers during what has been widely reported as a global shortage of supplies. This has been a very traumatic time for all of us, and I hope these masks will give the membership some peace of mind as we continue providing essential bus and subway service to New York.”
