Alexander Young, Member and Officer from White Plains Bus, Dies of Virus
School Bus Division Chair Gus Moghrabi said, “Alex was a friend. I’m in shock. He was such a beautiful, kind, intelligent man. I remember when I first came to the company, Alex asked me where I was from. When I told him I was Palestinian, he launched into a full history of Palestine and the current issues facing the region. Who can do that? Alex will be greatly missed.”
A true Renaissance man, Brother Young was an avid reader, student of the Bible, gifted writer, photographer, and artist. His work mostly depicted African American life, highlighting its reality and his vision of the way forward.
He was an ordained Deacon in the Community Baptist Church in Yonkers since 2002. He taught Sunday school, sang with the Gospel choir, and served on the Church’s Joint Board. He was a star student-athlete at Mt. Vernon High School, and was part of the New York State Champion 4X200 relay team in 1968. He also studied at Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C. and Bronx Community College.
Alex was the third of eight children. His parents were from North Carolina and relocated to Mt. Vernon shortly before he was born. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, two brothers and two sisters, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of grieving friends and co-workers.
